Winfield’s Toddler program offers an introduction to Montessori education. A low student-teacher ratio helps to bridge the child’s transition from home to school, while providing children with an opportunity to explore new relationships with friends and to interact with adults in a loving and nurturing environment.

In the Toddler House, our two classrooms, Casa Fiore and Casa Pace, are both multi-age, with children from 16 months to three years old. Children spend one or two years in the Toddler House, depending on their age when they enter the program - there is no requirement to only start at 16 months, nor is there a requirement to complete two years in the Toddler House.

As part of their early Montessori experience, toddlers are introduced to age-appropriate Montessori materials and invited to make choices from a variety of activities that support their developmental interests and needs. The toddler’s strong sense of autonomy is encouraged while self-esteem is enhanced through social and learning experiences.

The Toddler program offers the young child a safe, secure environment with loving and trusting teachers who respect each individual. The school and home partnership is formed, assisting the toddlers as they embark on their first school experience. It provides children with an opportunity to explore new relationships with friends and to interact with adults in a loving and nurturing environment.

The toddler’s strong sense of autonomy is encouraged through daily routines that support them in working toward self-care skills. The growing independence within a social setting furthers the growth of the toddler’s developing self-esteem.

Toddlers enjoy music and movement within the classroom curriculum. Snacks, outdoor play, and lunch are a part of the daily routine.

We do not do mid-year program changes, so a child who turns three while in the Toddler House will complete their school year in the Toddler House and then plan to move to the Children's House at the start of the next school year (or during Summer Camp, depending on their birthday).

The toddler need not be toilet trained, as this is a part of toddler development, but students must be walking independently and steadily, and be down to one nap, which takes place in the afternoon.
