Welcome to Winfield!

I found Winfield during college when I was looking for a summer placement. I had received a little exposure to Montessori in one of my education courses, but much of it was a mystery to me still; most of my experience at that point had been with elementary-aged students. Winfield took a chance on me, and I am forever grateful, as it has changed my life, both personally and professionally.

When I first visited Winfield, I was struck by the busy hum of the classrooms, how much the young children were “allowed” to do for themselves, and the special way the teachers spoke to the children. I immediately felt that I had to know more about this approach to education. To this day, I love to revisit this same discovery through the eyes of our new families, as they tour Winfield, learn more about the Montessori philosophy, and discover what an educational system can look like when respect for and trust in the child is kept as the centerpiece of every interaction.

I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to provide children with a space to self-create and to assemble a team of educators committed to that same goal. Our enriching classrooms and outdoor environment allow children to explore at their own pace, following their particular interests, and learning through exploration and meaning-making activities.

Winfield's relationships with our families form the heart of our community, and we are excited to be undertaking this process with you! With close to 40 years of history to draw from, we have connections going back for years with some families, through multiple children, and even multiple generations. In recent years, we have had Winfield alumni returning as new Winfield parents as well as Winfield staff! We look forward to welcoming you to the Winfield community!
